Getting to Karimunjawa: Your Transport Options

Back to all blogs

Discover the best boat options and routes for beginning your journey to the Karimunjawa islands.

Karimunjawa, a hidden tropical destination off the north coast of Central Java, offers breathtaking natural wonders. To reach this island paradise you can choose from several transport options: the Express Bahari fast boat, the Siginjai ferry, or the Pelni ship.

1. Express Bahari fast boat — The most popular option for travellers who want to arrive quickly and comfortably. The boat reaches Karimunjawa in about 2–3 hours from Kartini Harbour in Jepara, with comfortable seating, luggage storage and beautiful sea views along the way.

2. Siginjai ferry — A more relaxed crossing of about 4–5 hours from Kartini Harbour in Jepara to Karimunjawa Harbour. Enjoy the comfort of the cabin, an open deck for ocean views, and on-board facilities including a restaurant and canteen.

3. Pelni ship — A more budget-friendly alternative that takes longer. The Pelni leaves from Tanjung Emas Harbour in Semarang and reaches Karimunjawa in about 7–8 hours, with sleeping cabins, a restaurant and other public facilities.

Before choosing your transport, weigh travel time, comfort and budget. Check departure schedules and book tickets well in advance so you can plan your trip with peace of mind.
